Trump Administration Preparing to Impose Sanctions on the International Criminal Court

Al-Taj News – Western media outlets reported that the Trump administration will impose comprehensive sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC), in a sharp escalation of Washington’s efforts to dismantle the institution following its issuance of an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The sanctions would prohibit most transactions with the International Criminal Court after a grace period of six to seven months, and the move would effectively cripple the court’s operations by preventing it from conducting transactions in U.S. dollars, thereby isolating it from a large part of the global financial system.

They added that the timing of the final decision remains unclear, although some U.S. officials indicated that the step could be completed as early as this week, coinciding with the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, or in the days that follow.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson declined to preempt any decisions regarding the sanctions, but pointed to Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s position that the International Criminal Court poses a threat to U.S. sovereignty.

The U.S. Treasury Department also declined to comment, while the International Criminal Court did not respond to a request for comment.
